Saturday Blessings
Since I started this new blog/website I have been trying to post something every day. I missed yesterday.
Mostly because it was a cleaning day and the day we celebrated Christmas with family.
But today I didn't want to miss two days in a row, so, I got on with the internet to post a quick verse or something.
As I lay wondering what to post I recall how this Saturday started.
There was a discussion of the word “luck” which led to a quick word study which led to an assignment for the kids.
The assignment: find out what the Bible says about luck.
Now if you know your Bible (at least the KJV) you will immediately say, the Bible doesn't even use that word. How can you do a study in the Bible on a word the Bible doesn't contain.
Well, that is where the Word study comes in.
Finding out where the Word originated and what the word means will give you a pretty good idea of a word you can look up in the Bible.
For instance:
A quick look at “luck” shows that it came from the low German or Dutch language. Usually associated with gambling. A one meaning was good fortune.
Then you look up fortune. This is very much associated with the Roman goddess fortuna. In short, people would make sacrifices to her in hopes to receive good “fortune”.
Now fortune get us closer to a KJV word. And as most of us know this word is very much associated with the spiritual realm. And not the good side.
So, what this Saturday blessing showed me is we don't have to always make it a 2 month study to find an answer to our questions. Sometimes it can be a simple word study.
